Still Dissing The Troops

The New York Times, long known as being no friend of traditional patriotism, is at it again. In a New York Times report that appeared on Yahoo! News just under 90 minutes ago, the paper is reporting that 121 veterans of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars "have committed a killing or been charged in one" since returning from combat. In addition, the paper claims 349 active-duty personnel and new vets have been involve in homicides in the six years since the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq began. That's an 89% increase, according to the paper, in murders over the six year period prior to the wars' beginning.

What could possibly be the New York Times' motive for reporting this story now? Could it be to deflect the nation's attention away from the first anniversary of the troop surge in Iraq, a surge that has produced wonderfully positive results? In a word, yes.

The New York Times is the flagship of the American Left, a Left whose religion is that the Iraq War is an irredeemable failure, if not a crime. Trashing the troops instead of praising the surge is in keeping with that dogma. It's also an attempt to help the Democrats, as any improvement in Iraq is considered good for the Republicans. Yes, it's tragic if even one veteran commits homicide but an American is far more likely to be murdered by an ordinary citizen than by a vet or active-duty soldier.

Trading in the "crazed vet" stereotype is a shameful act of partisanship and anti-Americanism on the part of the Times. But it's good in that it reveals what the Left is really all about. The RA Folk don't all agree on the Iraq War but we DO all agree that a turning tide that favors our side in that war is a good thing. We believe it's good for America to win. We believe our troops are outstanding; the Left doesn't. Shame on them.
