The Torture Question

The controversy over using torture in the War on Terror is of much interest to us, the RA Folk. We who are RA are distinguished by our patriotism. We love America and believe totally in her fundamental goodness and nobility. We also believe in her absolute right to self-defense. On September 11, 2001 our nation was brutally attacked and 3000 of our people slaughtered in cold blood. Since then we have been fighting a life-and-death war against the Islamists who carried out the viscious attack.

The first order of this war is, naturally, to prevent another attack on the Homeland. This has been stunningly successful, with not a single terrorist strike against America since 9/11, although some radicals have tried. We've also been successful in much of our anti-terrorist operations abroad and that's where the controversy comes in. Some of the information that has led to our wins against terrorists was obtained through waterboarding, an interrogation technique some consider torture. The CIA's destruction of tapes showing agents harshly interrogating prisoners has added fuel to an already heated debate.

Where should RA people come down in this debate? The partisan nature of much of the torture accusations point us to the answer to that question.

Democrats and liberals are leading the charge of torture against the Bush administration. These are not unbiased people. In fact, many of them are rabid Bush haters who're willing to do anything to bring down the president. They are also very anti-war and have a vested interest in hyping any misstep by America in the War on Terror and the Iraq War. This doesn't mean that the RA Folk should dismiss their concerns out of hand, but it does mean that their motives should be questioned.

The "anti-torture" crowd (ATC) invariably invokes morality in their arguments against harsh methods. RA people, of course, expect America to act in accord with her basic goodness and decency. However, we must ask what the ATC's real agenda is. Remember, most of them are leftists who've shown pronounced fifth column tendencies. Is their we've-got-to-take-the-high-ground rhetoric an attempt to hobble America's war effort? Are they trying to make the rules of engagement so strict there's no way we can win?

Similar questions should be asked about the ATC's claim that America is creating jihadis by "torturing" her enemes. This "blame America first" notion is quite offensive to the RA Folk. Liberals' comfort with it makes them highly suspect to us. It also severly downgrades their credibility. When critics start with an anti-American foundation it behooves us to doubt their intentions. The RA Folk do just that.

RA people are patriots who love and defend our country. We believe our nation is good and noble, but also recognize that she's not perfect. We deal honestly with America's mistakes, faults, and sins but don't define her by them. If waterboarding really is torture we believe it should be stopped. However, in this life-and-death struggle we are in we prefer to err on the side of America's defense. Our government's primary responsibility is our protection, not guaranteeing the rights of those trying to kill us. If it takes harsh interrogation methods to make a terrorist give up the goods, then so be it. RA people would rather have "tortured" enemies than dead Americans. That's our answer to the torture question.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I send out a heartfelt wish for everyone to have a blessed Thanksgiving! As you gather with family and friends to enjoy good food, good company, and good fun, please remember the blessings of freedom that we enjoy, by the grace of God, here in America, the greatest nation on God's green earth.

Please also remember our servicemen and women who must spend this holiday overseas, far away from the warmth of family and the safety of home. Give thanks to God for them, for they secure our abundant way of life. Think of them as you cut your turkey, cheer on your favorite football team, and load up your camera with precious memories. Our fighting men and women are the legs on which our nation stands. Honor them, ask God to give them victory in their struggle, and pray for their speedy and safe return to a proud and grateful people during this holiday season.

Columbus Day

"In 14 hundred and 92 Columbus sailed the ocean blue."

I sang that little ditty as a child in school. It was to teach me about the voyage of an Italian adventurer that ultimately led to the founding of the great nation I was blessed to be born in. I doubt if children are taught the song now. Columbus Day, a day that should be a time of joyous national celebration has become, in recent years, a day of angry protests by Native Americans (NAs) and guilt-ridden, self-hating liberal Whites.

I am well aware of the gripe NAs have against Columbus. Native Americans or Indians, as Columbus named them, wound up on the losing end of a culture clash that neither they nor the Europeans saw coming. The Indians did suffer greatly from the "conquest" of the Americas by the Europeans, but the innocent-Indian-evil-European narrative that's emerged in the last few decades isn't the whole story. The Indians were not all innocent and the Europeans weren't all evil. The RA Folk must take the lead in balancing the telling of Columbus' arrival in the New World.

When Columbus landed in the Caribbean islands he was planting the seeds that eventually grew into the United States of America. If Columbus hadn't sailed there would be no USA today. In fact, none of the nations of North, Central, and South America would exist. The Hispanic illegal aliens who march in our streets proclaiming themselves "native people" need to be reminded that their very existence is due to the arrival of White men from Europe, beginning with Columbus.

Little that makes Hispanics who they are is native to the Americas. The culture of Hispanics is rooted in Spain, a European nation. Spanish, the language of most Hispanics, is from Europe. The countries that Hispanics live in were all created by Europeans. Catholicism, the religion of most Hispanics, is also a European import. And none of this would exist in the New World were it not for that much-maligned Italian. Hispanics should be thankful for him.

Of course, the RA Folk are thankful for Columbus because his desire for adventure and knowledge resulted in the establishment of our nation. The birth of America was not easy. It involved much travail in which Whites, as well as Indians, suffered. As America expanded more travail that again engulfed Whites and Indians alike, ensued. But the end result of these "birth pangs" was a nation that blessed all mankind with an ethos of liberty, equality, and opportunity the world had never before seen.

America is not perfect but she has proven to be the best nation that a sinful human race has produced. As stated above, she has blessed the earth with her presence, a presence secured by the brave travels of Christopher Columbus. The RA Folk salute Columbus. We honor his memory and his name. We know that without him our Republic would not exist and we would not be who we are. So we thank God for Columbus; we love him, and you malcontents can go to hell.

Here is an example for all RA Folk to follow.

Mr. Jim Brossard, an American patriot, saw a Mexican flag beging flown over the American flag and did something about. He drove to the restaurant in Reno, NV, where this atrocity was taking place, and proceeded to cut the Mexican flag down with his Army knife. He then took the Stars and Stripes with him to protect it from further dishonor.

I say, Bravo!, to Mr. Brossard. This is what all RA Folk should be doing. We have to take a stand against the assault on our nation's sovereignty and identity.

Flying the Mexican flag over the American flag is more proof that illegal aliens, and even many legal immigrants, think they're entitled to be in America without becoming American. That's unacceptable.

If foreigners coming to our country should understand that they must embrace our history, culture, and language. They have no right to demand that we Americans disown who we are in order to accomodate them.

Mr. Brossard got enough of pc "tolerance" and took action. All RA Folk should honor him and follow in his footsteps. Mr. Brossard is the epitome of what it means to be RA. God bless him!

"Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death!"

Here on RA Folk Nation I'm starting a new series like the one on RFN's "sister" blog Hammer Folk Woman. The series is called The Great Speeches. As the name implies this series will be copies of the greatest speeches in America's history. Speeches that steeled our resolve in war, comforted us in times of national tragedy, celebrated our national character, or revealed our origins in Christianity and Western civilization. We begin the series with the famous speech by Revolutionary War patriot Patrick Henry. Henry delivered his speech before Congress on March 23, 1775. Maybe one day soon, prodded by the RA Folk, this day will be recognized in America's schools as it should be and every American school child will learn by heart Patrick Henry's stirring call to fight for liberty.


Give Me Liberty Or Give Me Death!

No man thinks more highly than I do of the patriotism, as well as abilities, of the very worth gentlemen who have just addressed the house. But different men often see the same subject in different lights; and, therefore, I hope it will not be thought disrespectfu to those gentlemen if, entertaining as I do a character very opposite to theirs, I shall speak forth my sentiments freely and without reserve. This is no time for ceremony. The question before the house is one of awful moment to this country. For my own part, I consider it as nothing less than a question of freedom or slavery; and in proportion to the magnitude of the subject ought to be the freedom of the debate. It is only in this way that we can hope to arrive at the truth, and fulfill the great responsibility which we hold to God and our country. Should I keep back my opinions at susch a time, through fear of giving offense, I should consider myself as guilty of treason towards my country, and of an act of disloyalty toward the Majesty of Heaven, which I revere above all earthly kings.

Mr. President, it is natural to man to indulge in the illusion of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against truth, and listen to the song of that siren till she transforms us into beasts. Is this the part of wise men, engaged in a great and arduous struggle for liberty? Are we disposed to be of the numbers of those who, having eyes, see not, and having ears, hear not, the things which so nearly concern their temporal salvation? For my part, whatever anquish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth, to know the worst, and to provide for it.

I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of experience. I know of no way of judging of the future but by the past. And judging by the past, I wish to know what there has been in the conduct of the British ministry for the last ten years to justify those hopes with shich gentlemen have been pleased to solace themselves and the House. Is it that insidious smile with which our petition has been lately received?

Trust it not, sir; it will be a snare to your feet. Suffer ot yourselves to be betrayed with a kiss. Ask yourselves how this gracious reception of our petition comports with those warlike preparations which cover our waters and darken our land. Are fleets and armies necessary to a work of love and reconciliation? Have we shown ourselves so unwilling to be reconciled that force must be called in to win back our love? Let us not deceive ourselves, sir. These are the implements of war and subjucation; the last arguments to which kings resort. I ask gentlemen, sir, what means this martian array, if its purpose be not to force us to submission? Can gentlemen assign any other possible motive for it? Has Great Britain any enemy in this quarter of the word, to call for all this accumulation of navies and armies? No, sir, she has none. They are meant for us; they can be meant for no other. They are sent over to bind and rivet upon us those chains with which the British ministry have been so long forging. And what have we to oppose to them? Shall we try argument? Sir, we have been trying that for the last ten years. Have we anything to offer upon the subject? Nothing. We have held the subject up in every light of which it it capable; but it has been all in vain. Shall we resort to entreaty and humble supplication? What terms shall we find which have not been already exhausted? Let us not, I beseech you, sir, deceive ourselves. Sir, we have done everythig that could be done to avert the storme which is now coming on. We have petitioned; we have remonstrated; we have supplicated; we have prostrated ourselves before the throne, and have implored its interpolation to arrest the tyrannical hands of the ministry and Parliament. Our petitions have been slighted; our remonstrances have produced additional violence and insult; our supplications have been disregarded' and we have been spurned, with contempt, from the foot of the throne! In vain, after these things,may we indulge the fond hope of peace and reconciliation.

There is no longer any room for hope. If we wish to be free--if we mean to preserve inviolate those inestimable privileges for which we have been so long contending--if we mean not basely to abandon the noble struggle in which we have been so long engaged, and which we have pledged ourselves never to abandon until the glorious object of our contest shall be obtained--we must fight! I repeat it, sir, we must fight! An appeal to arms and to the God of hosts is all that is left us! They tell us, sir, that we are weak; unable to cope with so formidable an adversary. But when shall we be stronger? Will it be the next week, or the next year? Will it be when we are totally disarmed, and when a British guard shall be stationed in every house? Shall we gather strength but irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot? Sir, we are not weak if we make a proper use of those means which the God of nature hath placed in our power. The millions of people, armed in the holy cause ofliberty, and in such a country as that which we possess, are invincible by any force which our enemy can send against us. Besides, sir, we shall not fight our battles alone. Ther is a just God who presides over the destinies of nations, and who will raise up friends to fight our battles for us. The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave. Besides, sir, we have no election. If we were base enough to desire it, it is now too late to retire form the contest. There is no retreat but in submission and slavery! Our chains are forged! Their clanking may be heard on the plains of Boston! The war is inevitable--and let it come! I repeat, sir, let come.

It is in vain, sir, to extenuate the matter. Gentlemen may cry Peace, Peace--but there is no peace. The war is actually begun! The next gale that sweeps from the north will bring to our ears the clash of resounding arms! Our brethern are already in the field! Why stand we here idle? What is it that gentlemen wish? What would they have? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almight God! I know not what course other may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!

Brilliant! I hope all you peace activists out there will get it, but I know you won't. Welcome to RA Folk Nation!

Hello friends! Welcome to RA Folk Nation, the blog for the radically American citizen. As youmay have guessed, RA stands for radically American, NOT radical American. There will be NO radical advocacy on this blog, except to the extent that it's now radical to be an unashamed, unabashed, and unapologetic American patriot.

I'm writing this blog to tell all those silent, closeted patriots to get out of the closet and into the streets! (Of course, you out and proud patriots are welcome, too!) Our great, yes, great nation is under attack from within and without and all it'll take for the forces of America-hating "progressives" and Islamofascists to win is for patriots like you and me to remain silent and passive. Believe me, the America haters are counting on that.

RA Folk Nation will not be a partisan blog, even though conversatives/Republicans have, for pretty good reasons, a much stronger reputation for patriotism that liberals/Democrats. There are RA liberals/Democrats out there; there are RA feminists, RA gays, RA blacks, RA Hispanics, and a lot of other RA people who, because of their group indentity, aren't supposed to love America, according to the politically correct Left. This blog is telling those people that they are not alone, that they are not sellouts to their race, sex, class, or whatever, because they understand that, despite her faults, America is the best nation on the globe.

In my post I'll be expressing my ideas about America, what makes her great, the nature of the threats against her, and what we RA citizens can do to fight back. I don't expect total agreement with my opinions from my readers; that's not human nature, and that's not what being RA is about. The RA tent is large and, hopefully, will get larger. As I pointed out above, different types of people are, or can become, RA. In the RA tent you'll find the pro-choice, feminist, atheist and the pro-life, traditionalist, Christian. Things won't always be comfortable in the RA tent. RA citizens will have to learn the fine art of being porcupines in winter: staying close enough together to keep each other warm but far enough apart not to get pricked. That won't be an easy task, but being a patriot is not about doing what's easy; it's about loving and doing what's good for our country.

I hope all who stop by this blog will leave thinking. Think about the issues facing America; think about what our politicians are telling us; think about what's really motivating people like Ward Churchill and Jay Bennish; think about what the news media is, and isn't, reporting. Think, think, think! You have a duty to be a critically thinking and involved citizen. Are you up to the task? Don't come back to this blog if you're not.
